The Akwa Ibom Social Development Association (AKISDA), Thursday, officially launched its cooperative arm, The Promised Land (Uyo) Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd (TPLMPCSL) with the management committee led by Priest Edem Eyo-ette as President, inaugurated in a ceremony held at the State Secretariat of AKISDA, No. 24 Nyong Essien Street, Uyo.
The climax of the event was the presentation of the Certificate of Incorporation for the cooperative society by the state government through the Bureau of Rural Development & Cooperative Services. Mrs. Patricia Udofia from the bureau, who presented the certificate also administered the oath of office on the officials of the management board of the cooperative, while stating that the cooperative, having formally received the Certificate of Incorporation, has assumed a legal status and can therefore sue and be sued.
She said the Promised Land cooperative is multipurpose in nature and can therefore delve into various prospects deemed necessary by its management committee.
Among the guests who graced the event were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Esema Esema, Apostle Goddey Udo-idung of Life of grace Apostolic Center; Rev. Engineer Emmanuel Leo, Ikot Ekpene District Pastor, Truth and Life Church; amongst others.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of AKISDA, Uwana-obong Eric Leo said the birth of the cooperative society as the brainchild of AKISDA was part of the vision and ideology of the association to make sure that the association encourages local economic development through strategic partnership. Leo charged AKISDA members and intending members of the association to continue to pitch developmental ideas in the aspects such as mini importation, mortgage, and general businesses and skills, so as to make the state business-oriented and in order change its current status quo as a civil service state.
On his part, the AKISDA State Chairman, Israel Akpan described the launch of the multipurpose cooperative society as a sign of a new beginning for AKISDA and urged members to keep faith in the organization.
Also, the Chairman of AKISDA Committee for the Co-operative, Ubong Sammy who was the chairman on the occasion, was represented by Engr. Nkopuyo Obohoso of Exxon Mobil.
Other principal officers of TPMPCSL are Ubonabasi Thompson, Vice President, while Nse Ukpong serves as Secretary and Elder Edem Akpan is the Treasurer.
